Field test of Google Pixel Buds 2
Summary
A decent pair of wireless earbuds for a reasonable price. Top notch integration with the Google Assistant making it easy to give hands free command to your phone. Excellent design for the buds which are low profile and quite comfortable to wear, as well as the case which fits nicely in the hand and in your pocket.
In order to get the most of these earbuds I'd recommend that you update the software to (ver 629) in order to resolve the bluetooth disconnection issues. It would be good to change the silicone tips to get the perfect fit which is essential for the in-ear detection and to ensure a secure fit.
This earbud is ideal for those who don't want to spend more than USD200 on a decent wireless earbud and those who use Google Assistant a lot.
- PROS: Super fast pairing with Pixel and Android phones, small form factor of the buds and the case. Audio quality is good, microphone is decent, battery lasts a whole day.
- CONS: Had a little difficulty in pairing these buds to my laptops (Mac and Chrome OS). Buds
- OTHER THOUGHTS: It would be nice to have an ANC option for future earbuds. While it can pair with a number of devices, I wish it can switch between two/three devices while in use. Wired earphones are still the best in terms of audio and mic quality, but bluetooth audio quality is improving.
FIELD TESTS DONE
- Used earbuds during a video call to try out the microphone and to see if the person am talking to could understand me.
- Went jogging with it to see if it will fall out, which it didn't even after I changed clothes.
- Used a single earbud while walking around a mall to test out if I can hear ambient noise.
- Wore earbuds while lying down in bed and fell asleep on it. Shows how comfortable they are.
Thanks johnny!
